Cross Country Skiing from our front door.
Zwiesel for cross-country skiing has about 70 km of groomed trails with 5-km track in Bärnzell, a small village on the southern outskirts. The Royal Air Force train here in winter and with Four different lengths of trails from 1.5 km to 12 km to go, from the ski stadium in the western part of town. All four are groomed for skaters and parallel skiers, even classical. The shortest trail is floodlit till 22:00 for night skiing. In 750 meters starting Kaiser climbing trails, the highest in the city. The three classic cross country tracks are 6, 10 and 14 km long and snow-sure. Due to the height difference of up to 150 m, they are more demanding than the other tracks. A 3.5 km long skating trail is shown in the lift area of the ski lift.
Zwiesel is also located at the 160 km long Bavarian Forest trail, the silver Bach / Lohberg on the north side of the Arber of the National Park south to Haidmühle on the Czech border and a little further out to Neuschönau a National Park Centre.
Other popular cross-country areas near Zwiesel are the winter sports center on Zwieselerwaldhaus (about 12 km away) with 30 km of groomed trails and of course the highest ski area on the Arber, the Bretterschachten (20 km). There are even 65 km of trails are groomed from classic to skating. The free ski bus from Zwiesel also goes there 4 times a day.
A recent winter sports map (trail map) of the area, which is available for a small fee on the ground shows, the variety of trails and groomed trails in the area. Trail networks Zwiesel / Rabenstein, Bärnzell, Zwieselerwaldhaus, Bay. Eisenstein, Bretterschachten, Bayerwaldloipe.
